Aurora Borealis Necklace

Reworked Vintage Necklace

Things have not been very good around here lately. It’s mostly recession woes, and I am trying to stay positive. This was my last full week of teaching, so I may be able to get more blogging/commenting done starting next week. I have also been buying used books for an online bookseller, and I will be dropping off my first boxes of books in L.A. next week. I am interested to see if I will make enough for it to be worth my while.

One good thing about stress, is it forces me to be artistic. I find it so soothing being surrounded by all sorts of bits and pieces of vintage and new jewelry. There is a subtle excitement in not knowing what the finished piece will look like till it’s done.

This necklace was actually made from a vintage belt. I really liked the bold links, so I cut it down to necklace size then attached a vintage aurora borealis rhinestone earring as a pendant.

I have made a few other pieces too, but this is the only new one I’ve photographed yet. I will be putting them up in my etsy store.

  1. so, so pretty- You do great work Beka! 🙂

  2. It’s pretty. I’m glad you have something to take your mind off the hard times.

  3. seriously you have a talent in this area……..that piece is so pretty. Keep on thinking positive Beka, I know it’s hard but if anyone you can. I just know that things will work out as they should.

  4. All your jewelry looks great! But that was an earring? I looks huge!

I’m wondering why you don’t become the online bookseller yourself? I don’t know all the dynamics and this might be a super deal, but if they’re not buying all of them for several dollars a book, you might do better selling them online yourself. Look at eBay’s book seller board to get a feel for the type books that sell well. But in the end, do what works best for you.

  5. That necklace is just beautiful, Beka!
I’m sorry that you’ve had a rough week. It is really hard at them moment, isn’t it? My job is not secure, because of the economic situation and the company needing to cut costs. But I’m trying to stay positive. I know you are too, but sometimes it’s easier said than done!

  6. I’m always sending you big hugs Beka dear.

  7. Megahugs, beka.

I have taken to turning the television to another channel whenever recession news comes on. I don’t need to be reminded of it, and there’s rarely any good or useful news on, is there? Sometimes, ignorance really is a form of bliss.

I guess that necklace means when you’re wearing it you’re really dressed up to the nines, huh?

  8. your jewlery pieces are very beautiful Beka…like you..inside and out. hang in there….I know it’s hard right now but maybe selling books on ebay is the way to go. sending some hugs your way.

  9. Wow you have such a good eye for jewelry, I wish there was a way you could sell a line of your pieces full time. I know things will look up soon!
