My son is an animal! Woo hoo!

Game # 3
Game # 3

Okay, that sounds kinda silly, I’ll admit. My son is 10 years old, and he’s been playing football for 4 years now. He has always been tall (last year he was the youngest on his team by 3 months), but he is somewhat like Ferdinand the gentle bull. They want him to tackle, and he just wants to smell the flowers.

In the past, he’s only been able to be aggressive when some other kid really ticks him off. Then he flattens them. But normally, he’s just happy to be there with no sense of urgency.

But at yesterday’s game for some reason, he suddenly turned it on, especially in the fourth quarter. He told me later he just decided he didn’t want to lose. I could see him itching to jump from the line, and as soon as the whistle blew he was in constant motion. He sacked the quarterback twice, and tackled a ton. As his mom it was really thrilling to watch him do it.

He is number 82 in these photos.

One other mom has a gentle son too. Her son came up to her on the sidelines during a break and said, “Mom, I want to give you a kiss.” She replied, “Go hurt someone! Don’t kiss your mother!” I had to laugh!

  1. Love the new banner. Go your animal son. Sounds like he had a great game. To be honest I love that story about Ferdinand the gentle bull so had a wee giggle when you mentioned your son being like him. Also had to giggle at the other mum.

  2. That’s so neat how he’s sweet & gentle, but is learning how to get “football fever” when he needs it! Too cute 🙂

  3. isn’t fun to watch when they play like that? 🙂 Great photos and good for him for all his tackles & sacks!

  4. that is a good analogy becca..of zach, he makes a great ferdinand. how funny is that mom? love that picture of you in the green tee by the tidebar.

  5. Teehee. Now I’ve got that “Animal” song in my head, “I wann live like an animal, careless and freeeeeeee.”
